Triathlon Training

Have you ever dreamed of having the perfect triathlon: an efficient swim, a blazing bike and enough energy for a solid run? In most cases the bike leg is the crux event of the three, and the one where athletes tend to either go too easy and make them have regrets later, or go too hard and blow their chances for a good run. Essentially, as with the other two events, the bike leg comes down to perfect pacing and an Ergomo power meter is the perfect solution to your pacing blues.
As with road cycling, triathlon training and racing with a power meter will help athletes see the exact demands of the events they race and enable them to train accordingly. Ideally, triathletes will want to find the perfect percentage of their functional threshold power (the max average power a rider can put out over an hour) that they can maintain for the duration of their race and still have a solid run. For example, in his book Training and Racing with a Power Meter, Hunter Allen suggests that athletes who are focused on the Ironman distance should primarily train and race in their endurance and tempo zones or 68-78% of their functional threshold power. This will be different for some triathletes as the more fit will be able to sustain a higher percentage for longer and still be able to have a solid run. Allen adds that when racing a triathlon, riders should use normalized power (the power one would generate if there were no surges or dips in power), as it is a better indicator of training and racing stress on the athlete. The Ergomo power meter was the first full system that could give you that data and is still the most reliable since it is a wired system and not susceptible to information drop out.
The evidence offered by Hunter Allen makes it clear that the Ergomo Pro power meter is a great tool for any triathlete. The flexibility of the system allows the rider to customize his or her display to show the most important training or racing parameters. Specifically, a triathlete can customize the display to show Normalized power side by side with current output and overall average power, allowing the rider to pace perfectly in training and racing. The important fact, however, is that the Ergomo Pro power meter will take your triathlon training to the next level and help any rider race with the confidence to do their best on the bike leg in any multisport event entered.
